The Only Living Boy in Rathgar

Stream of Consciousness

In which the first minute of writing this post was looking up how to spell consciousness. This piece is rather pointless and only exists because I have a blog web site with no blog posts. I am alone in the house today, which is a rare occurrence as usually there is someone working from home. If you've read my now page circa February 2026, you will know that I'm unemployed taking a career break. This has given me a lot of time to indulge many fleeting interests concurrently, although inevitably playing Arc Raiders wins out.

Last week, I made a video game using the Godot game engine based off a throw away joke made while playing Age of Empires with friends. It's crude, repetitive, ugly, repetitive, and will likely never see the light of day. And repetitive. BUT, I had great fun making it. For about 3 of the 5 days I worked on it. I have a newfound admiration for all the games I've ever played as even the most straightforward things took me a long time to figure out how to implement. That said, if any recruiter is reading this, I am an experienced programmer with 10+ years of software development skills and I can totally do the job for insert company here, I have a PhD for crying out loud.

I have wilfully disregarded any rules about writing as laid down by Deirdre McCloskey in "Economical Writing" because I want this to exist more than I want it to be good. As a director friend of mine says (paraphrasing) "Wrong and strong better than right and shite". Although perhaps that should be "write and shite", in this case. No doubt the two words will be closely linked in future posts in this blog.

Until next time.
